The Hawks Athletic Club is a member of Hockey Edmonton and has been providing organized hockey in northwest Edmonton since 1987.

The Hawks Athletic Club is open to all boys and girls, aged 4 through 14 years (timbits through bantam), residing in Edmonton north of Stony Plain Road to the city boundary and 97 Street west to the city limits.

You will find our program fun, exciting and competitive, with our main goal being the development of skating and hockey skills.


Early bird registration prices end July 31 / Evaluations / Conditioning Camp

Hello Hawks' Families,

Just a quick reminder to register before July 31 to take advantage of our early bird pricing.  Registration fees for Novice to Bantam increase by $100 as of August 1.

EVALUATIONS - evaluations for the upcoming season for Novice through Bantam are scheduled to begin on September 9.  Please check the Evaluations section of the Hawks website in August for details.

CONDITIONING CAMP - download the BROCHURE to register for our 2016 Conditioning Camp at Castle Downs Arena - August 8 to 19 - All ice times in the evening.

Letter from Hawks President

Hello Hawks’ Families:

I want to thank everyone for the great hockey season recently concluded this spring. I’m looking forward to another exciting season beginning this fall.

The 2016-2017 season is full of exciting possibilities and to that end our goal is to make the Hawks bigger and better. To accomplish this we need to use our best resource: you - our members.

As the registrations continue to grow in each category so does the need for extra help at the executive level where currently we have the need for 5 Category Directors. We are moving to a 2-person Category Director for some Categories. To accomplish this we will require 4 more Category Directors (one each for Discovery, Timbits, Novice and Atom which already have one Category Director in place). Our Peewee and Bantam categories will continue to be managed with one Category Director and we currently have a vacancy for the sole Peewee Category Director. The role of a Director requires that you attend a monthly executive meeting starting in September running through May for the 2016/2017 season. Additionally, we will need your help with the player evaluations in the category in which you are placed. Please note that we will not place you as a Category Director in the same category as that of your child. If you are interested in a director position please contact our VP of Hockey Operations, Darren Hutton, at vphockeyops@hawksathletics.ca or darrenh@rsl.ca.

As previously announced at the end of this past season, our Bantam program was going to be run this upcoming season by our parent club, the North West Zone Hockey Association. However, at a meeting held in mid-May, it was decided that the operating areas (the Hawks and Whitemud) would continue to run their own Bantam programs for 2016/2017. We want to encourage all of the 2nd year Peewees (going into Bantam) as well as our returning Bantam players to get their registrations in as soon as possible so we can rock this category this year.

Our early registration prices run until July 31st, 2016. We encourage everyone to register as soon as possible to be eligible for the early bird prices! Starting August 1st, the fees will go up by $100.00 per category, except for the Discovery and Timbits Programs which will remain at the early-bird prices.

Returning players - please bring your pre-printed registration form with you and ensure that all the information is accurate. Our primary method of communication is e-mail so please make sure that the e-mail address(es) are correct. 

Blank registration forms for new players will be available at registration or can be DOWNLOADED HERE.

These registration dates are primarily for younger children in the Discovery, Junior Timbits and Senior Timbits Divisions as their season does not start until early October. 

Forms of payment accepted: Cash, Debit, Cheques, Visa, MasterCard.

2016-2017 Initiation Hockey - Some Changes to Note!

Thank you for your patience as we’ve been waiting for Hockey Edmonton to come to a final decision on the Initiation Program. The changes to make note of are as follows:

Discovery Program (Previously Initiation 1A)

This program is for brand new skaters, learning to skate with hockey equipment and incorporating hockey skills throughout the season. This program will remain on the weekends with each session being 45 minutes long. Ideally this will be for 2011 and 2012 birth years (4 and 5 years of age), dependent on skill level.

Timbits Program (Previously Initiation 2A)

This program has been split into two separate programs. The Timbits Program is for 2010 and 2011 birth years (5 and 6 years of age), but will also be dependent on skill level.

Junior Timbits

The Jr. Timbits program will be a 1 hour practice, once a week, on a Saturday or Sunday. There will be a Lead Instructor on the ice for practices, with several other coaches assisting. The Lead Instructor position will rotate between the “on ice coaches” and they will use Hockey Canada’s Initiation Program Curriculum.

Senior Timbits

The Sr. Timbits program will be two - 1 hour ice times per week (1 practice and 1 game) to be held on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a Lead Instructor on the ice for practices, with several coaches assisting. The Lead Instructor position will rotate between the “on ice coaches” and they will use Hockey Canada’s Initiation Program Curriculum. During the “game” session, there will be a game on each end of the rink, with the middle of the ice being used for active rest, drills the kids want to work on, and unstructured small games.

INITIATION PROGRAM
Hockey Edmonton is undertaking a city-wide review of the entire Initiation (Timbits) program.  We are awaiting their decision and will share the information as soon as it becomes available to us.

BANTAM PLAYERS

UPDATED BINGO POLICY - VERY IMPORTANT - please read
  • All registrants are required to work one bingo. Bingo revenue is returned to the registrants through subsidized ice costs, subsidized conditioning camp costs, subsidized registration fees, payment of coach courses for Hockey Canada certification, reimbursement of referee fees at the end of the year, pant shells, jerseys, goalie equipment, etc.
  • If you want to “opt out” of the bingo, please add $100.00 to your registration fee. The fee option of $100.00 to “opt out” of the bingo is only available at the time of registration. If you choose to “opt out” after the season has started the “opt-out fee after you register” will be $200.00.
  • For those working the bingo, an undated deposit cheque in the amount of $200.00 is required at the time of registration. When your bingo requirement has been satisfied this cheque will be returned to you. If you no longer have cheques, we will require a credit card number together with the applicable expiry date, or a $200 cash deposit.
Failure to book your mandatory bingo by November 1st, failure to work your bingo on the pre-arranged date, cancelling with anything less than 48 hours’ notice, or in the event your bingo requirement has not been satisfied by the end of the season will result in this deposit cheque being cashed, or your credit card being charged for the amount of $200, or forfeiture of your cash deposit.
